Conflicts of Interest and Funding

A conflict of interest exists when a financial or non-financial relationship could influence, or appear to influence, a person's judgement about the work. JOMS requires authors, reviewers and editors to declare all such interests.

Authors

Every manuscript must include a Conflicts of Interest statement before the References. Authors should declare:

• financial interests: employment, consultancies, honoraria, stock ownership, paid expert testimony, patents or grants related to the work;
• non-financial interests: personal relationships, academic competition, or political, religious or institutional affiliations relevant to the work.

Where there are none, the statement should read: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest.

Funding statement

Every manuscript must include a Funding section naming each funder and grant number, and describing the funder's role in study design, data collection and analysis, interpretation, writing, and the decision to publish. Where there was no specific funding, the statement should read: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial or not-for-profit sectors.
