The Department of Graduate Studies and Training at the University

Was created Sebha University By decision of the former People's Committee No. 187/1983 AD where it was sold Tripoli University Sabha University was established by a decision of the former People's Committee No. 187/1983 AD where it was affiliated with the University of Tripoli from the year 1976 AD and the university contains eighteen colleges spread in the southern region, and seeks through its vision, goals and mission towards civilization progress and to meet the needs of the multi-region in general, and to achieve development Sustainable in raising the educational level of the individual in southern Libya, and to push the wheel of scientific progress forward. Among the departments that help the university achieve its goals are the Department of Graduate Studies and Training at the university.


The Department of Graduate Studies and Training at the University is specialized in preparing and implementing plans and programs for graduate studies at the university for faculty members, teaching assistants and employees, or those who are other than those working in the various areas of work within the university's jurisdiction. For the university outside for the purpose of conducting graduate studies


1. Administrative tasks of the University's Graduate Studies Department

The Department of Graduate Studies carries out its duties through its affiliated offices, whether within the department or in colleges as follows

    1. Receive nominations for the various departments of the faculty for the purposes of study or training, classification and classification.
    2. Determining and specifying the fields of graduate studies and training available in colleges and preparing them for guidance
    3. To participate in conducting the necessary research and studies to determine the possibility of creating new specializations for postgraduate studies, developing existing ones, and preparing and following up the necessary implementation plans and programs,
    4. Preparing college studies plans and programs and supervising their implementation
    5. Preparing plans and programs for graduate studies abroad, adopting their accreditation and related procedures, and following up on their implementation in coordination with the competent authorities.

Technical and academic assignments

In addition to the administrative tasks of managing graduate studies at the university, there are some procedures that have a technical or academic nature that require the formation of committees at the university level, colleges and departments that have accredited programs for graduate studies, as follows:

 

University Graduate Committee

It is a committee formed by a decision of the University Council

    • Headed by the Vice for scientific affairs at the university
    • the membership of chairmen of postgraduate studies committees in colleges with postgraduate studies
    • The Director of the University's Graduate Studies Department shall be a member and a rapporteur of it.

The committee meets once a month to discuss all topics related to the following:

  1.  Study and admission
  2.  Consider complaints submitted by scientific departments
  3.  Presenting the proposals of the minutes of colleges' graduate committees and referring their proposals to the competent authorities to issue decisions for implementation
  4.  Supervising the university’s graduate studies, following up and coordinating them, laying down plans and programs, working to develop them, and monitoring their financial resources.

    • Headed by the Director of the College’s Graduate Studies Office
    • And the membership of the Vice President of the College
    • the membership of chairmen of postgraduate studies committees in colleges with postgraduate studies

Among its mission:

  1. Organizing and supervising graduate studies at the college
  2. Organizing the registration, admission and transfer of the college.
  3. Organizing study and exams in the college.
  4. Conducting equations and determining estimates in coordination with the relevant scientific departments.
  5. Assigning professors who supervise scientific theses and theses in coordination with the specialized scientific departments.

Department's Graduate Studies Committee

    • Headed by the coordinator of graduate studies in the scientific section
    • And the membership of two faculty members of the scientific department
    • In addition to the head of the department,

Among its mission:

  1. Organizing and supervising graduate studies in the scientific section.
  2. Study the applications of applicants for higher studies in the department, supervise the admission examination, conduct personal interviews with the applicants, and submit proposals in this regard to a council in the scientific department.
  3. Study the department's transfer requests
  4. Follow up the progress of postgraduate studies and supervise the exams in the scientific section.
  5. To suggest the absorptive capacity of the scientific department.
  6. Proposing and developing programs and putting the programs implemented in them into the scientific section.
  7. Study the vocabulary proposals for the special subjects decisions proposed by the faculty members before being approved by the Scientific Department Council.
  8. Study and evaluate research plans and submit them to the Department Council for approval.
  9. Follow up the implementation of the research plans and submit periodic reports thereon to the department council in coordination with the supervisors.
  10. Discussion committees proposal for theses and theses.

University Council for Postgraduate Studies and Training

It shall be chaired by the director of the university's postgraduate studies and training department and membership of managers of postgraduate studies and training offices in all colleges of the university, and meets periodically, and his duties

  1. Discuss the conditions of teaching assistants in colleges and propose solutions
  2. Determining the needs of training colleges and methods of implementing them in cooperation with  Training and Development Center.
  3. Discussing reports about delegates inside and outside.
  4. Preparing the semi-annual and annual reports, whether for the offices or the administration.
