Acknowledging the university’s leading role in shaping public policies in the region and its beneficial influence at all levels, the Ambassador of Niger to Libya, along with his delegation, made an official visit to Sebha University on the morning of February 9, 2026. He was received warmly by the President of the University, the Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, and some directors of departments and offices at the university.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the University extended a warm welcome to His Excellency, the Ambassador of the sisterly State of Niger and his accompanying delegation. He praised the enduring fraternal relations that have united the peoples of Libya and Niger throughout history, highlighting the love, friendship, and ongoing communication that characterise their bonds at both the popular and official levels.

He presented an overview of the establishment and development of the University, its affiliated colleges and centres, its scientific and academic activities and its role in serving society and the environment. Expressing the university’s keenness to build bridges of cooperation and integration with higher education institutions in Niger in the academic and research fields, exchange professors and research, and provide postgraduate study opportunities for Nigerian students in the specialisations of technical sciences and humanities.
His Excellency the Ambassador of Niger expressed his great happiness to be present at Sebha University and among its students, professors and employees, stressing that one of the priorities of his work program was to visit the university and meet with its presidency to discuss and consult on scientific and academic cooperation programs and benefit from its capabilities and various programs due to the prestigious position and good reputation that the university enjoys on the African level He hopes that this visit will be the beginning of multiple joint cooperation programs between the University of Sebha and the universities of Niger, adding that he will push strongly in this direction with officials in the universities. The Director of the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Southern Region affirmed the Ministry’s support, support and sponsorship of all scientific cooperation programs and agreements that establish the establishment of real cooperation and integration between higher education institutions in Libya and Niger, and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will work to overcome obstacles and remove challenges that hinder this or prevent reaching it.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University President presented the University Shield to His Excellency, the Ambassador of Niger, in recognition of his esteemed visit. In the ongoing efforts to monitor the implementation of the electronic personnel system at Sebha University. Yesterday, Monday (8-2-2026), the Technical Committee and the Administrative Committee in charge of implementing the system held an expanded meeting.
They dedicated this meeting to following up on the stages of implementing the project system and reviewing what they had accomplished. The attendees discussed the mechanism for auditing current data and the method for entering employee data for matching during the meeting session.
In turn, the attendees agreed that they would define a package of basic data that the next phase would focus on. – It is worth noting that this meeting comes within the university’s efforts aimed at developing its administrative system and digital transformation to enhance the quality of services provided, achieving the highest levels of accuracy and transparency in personnel management.

As part of Sebha University’s ongoing efforts to support innovative scientific research that serves the health and technology sectors, the Faculty of Science – Department of Physics witnessed, on Monday morning (09-02-2026 AD), at 10:00 AM, in the Graduate Studies Hall of the Faculty of Engineering, a public discussion of a master’s thesis submitted to achieve the requirements for obtaining a higher degree (Master). The thesis was submitted by the student, Najat Muhammad Abdullah Al-Tabawi, and was titled: (Detection and Diagnosis of Spinal Disc Herniation from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Using Image Processing Techniques). The study aimed to develop and apply advanced algorithms in digital image processing to improve the accuracy of detecting disc herniations in the spine through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The study aims to provide technical tools that assist doctors in making early and accurate diagnoses, thereby reducing human error and enhancing the efficiency of treatment plans. In her study, the researcher relied on an experimental scientific approach that combines applied physics and computer science, where a set of image data was analysed, and advanced filters and segmentation techniques (Segmentation) were applied to extract infection features with high accuracy, which makes this research a vital addition in the field of biomedical physics. The Scientific Discussion Committee consisted of: Prof Emhammed Mohammed Safour – Supervisor and Rapporteur (Sabha University). Dr Abu Bakr Ali Youssef Al-Ghoul – Internal Discussant (Sebha University). Dr Ali Abdel Qader Muhammad Al-Shanouki – External discussant (Wadi Al-Shati University).

At the conclusion of the discussion, the committee praised the distinguished scientific effort made by the researcher and the importance and modernity of the topic, which kept pace with medical technological developments. The committee recommended that the student be granted a master’s degree in physics, while wishing her good luck and success in her scientific and practical career.

Third-year students from the Faculty of Nursing at Sebha University visited the Sebha Dialysis Centre on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, to observe and learn about dialysis procedures. The visit is part of the university’s commitment to linking academic study with practical clinical experience.

Student Atika Omar Fadhel Al-Sharif presented her thesis, titled “The Structure of Narrative Time in Ibrahim Al-Koni’s Novel The Well.” The study explored how time is used in the novel to shape the story and convey the philosophical and mythical vision of the desert.

The examination committee, led by Prof. Hassan Mohamed Hassan Al-Khubairi, praised the thesis for its scholarly quality and recommended awarding the student her Master’s degree.
