Sebha University organizes a workshop on the role of higher education institutions in migration issues
Sebha University organized a workshop entitled “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Dealing with Migration Issues: Approaches and Initiatives”, attended by a group of local and international academics and officials, with the aim of discussing ways to address migration issues and the role of universities in finding sustainable solutions to this phenomenon.
The workshop witnessed the participation of a number of institutions and stakeholders, including the President of Sebha University, Dr. Masoud Emhamed Al-Raqeeq, the Director of the University’s International Cooperation Office, Mohamed Ahmed Mahrez, in addition to the Mayor of Sebha Municipality, officials from Libyan and international universities, international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as well as representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labor, Urban Planning, and Sebha International Airport.
In his speech, Dr. Masoud Al-Raqeeq emphasized the importance of academic cooperation in addressing migration challenges, noting that Sebha University, as one of Libya’s oldest universities, plays a pivotal role in this field. Professor Mohamed Ahmed Mehrez also stressed the role of higher education in building specialized research capacities to deal with migration issues, pointing out the importance of international cooperation in this context.
Marcelo, director of the Union of Mediterranean Universities, praised the university’s efforts in promoting awareness of migrants’ rights, emphasizing that education is one of the most important tools to face the challenges of migration and promote social coexistence.
The workshop concluded with discussion sessions aimed at developing practical recommendations that contribute to the development of sustainable strategies to address migration issues through academic research and international cooperation.
