Abstract

Solar photovoltaic energy is an advanced technology for producing clean electricity with high efficiency and low emissions, and represents a strategic option for countries with high solar irradiation.  The importance of this research stems from the challenges faced by the area, including low voltage and frequent power outages due to the remoteness of generation centres, long transmission lines, high loads, and limited generation capacity available at the General Electricity Company. The research relied on actual solar irradiance data extracted from the PVGIS-SARAH2 database specific to the site, The system performance was evaluated at three different capacities of the photovoltaic plant, namely 15, 20, and 25 MVA, with the aim of determining the most appropriate capacity to supply a local load of approximately 21 MVA and improving the voltage profile at the remote buses.  a capacity of 25 MVA achieved the best operational performance, as it provided adequate load coverage with operating reserve and contributed to raising voltage values within the technically permissible range.
