This study represents an attempt to extrapolate the roles played by the countries of the Maghreb during the 1920s and 1950s in stimulating unionist sentiments among Arabs in general and Maghreb in particular, and the interactions they generated with their momentum. Then, to highlight the peak of the hump of this momentum, and the head of this interaction, which is the “Tangier Conference in Morocco (1958) and the Maghreb unity project,” which is considered a prominent milestone in the Maghreb unity project, as it is the last attempt at joint Maghreb action during the stage of the struggle for independence. It included members of the national parties who attended the conference to consider the conditions and issues of the Arab Maghreb, which contributed to the development of the Maghreb struggle as an indispensable necessity in their struggle for liberation and unity. During which the Maghreb parties approved several historic decisions that embody aspects of joint unified action. This conference also gave a new concept of Maghreb unity, which no longer means merely unifying the struggle in the Maghreb, but rather working to establish a federal union that includes its three countries. Gaullist policy led to retracting those decisions under threat and temptation, after which nearby region's ambitions became the master of the situation in determining Maghreb relations. Through this paper, it is attempted to study the circumstances of the conference, highlight its objectives, and point out the contradiction between thought and practice that characterized the experience of unionist solidarity before and after the conference
