Raising the Voice of Libyan Health Research on the Global Stage

2025-09-02

It is with deep gratitude and renewed commitment that I step into the role of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of medical sciences. As we embark on this new chapter, I believe it is time for us to be bold — to reposition this journal not only as a platform for academic publication, but as a meaningful and strategic voice for health research emerging from Libya and the surrounding region.

Our journal was founded with a mission to support evidence-based research and to provide a home for the work of Libyan and regional scientists. In recent years, however, it has become increasingly clear that for our work to have the impact it deserves, it must be visible, discoverable, and recognized internationally. That is why one of my core goals is to lead Journal of medical sciences toward indexing in Scopus, listing in international bibliographic databases, and eventual inclusion in SCImago Journal Rankings (SJR) and similar platforms.

Achieving this requires a collective effort — not only from the editorial team, but also from our community of authors, reviewers, and readers. It also demands a commitment to scientific rigor, editorial transparency, and global standards. We will begin implementing stronger editorial policies, clearer author guidelines, and improved peer review processes. We aim to strengthen the quality and consistency of published research while remaining accessible and supportive of early-career researchers and local scientists.

Our thematic scope will continue to center on health and biomedical sciences, with a strong emphasis on research that addresses Libyan public health needs, regional disease patterns, clinical advances, health systems, health education and community health challenges. We welcome submissions that explore these topics using a variety of approaches — clinical, molecular, epidemiological, or policy-based as long as they bring insight, innovation, and relevance to the field.

In the months ahead, you will notice new initiatives: thematic calls for papers, capacity-building for authors and reviewers, and a roadmap to international indexing. We are currently working on aligning with the technical and ethical criteria required by Scopus and other indexing services.

Finally, I extend a warm invitation to fellow researchers in Libya and abroad: join us. Submit your best work. Peer-review with us. Share our content. Help us grow a journal that not only meets international standards, but also reflects the priorities and values of our region. I would also like to sincerely thank our dedicated editorial team, whose commitment, expertise, and hard work form the backbone of this journal’s progress and future success.
