The dangers of floods and torrents on urban infrastructure in the urban areas of M'sila Province, Algeria from 2007 to 2024.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the impact of flash floods and floods on infrastructure, as they are among the most significant natural disasters causing severe material and human damage. The damages include the destruction of roads and bridges, disruption of sewage and water networks, and damage to buildings and properties, along with threats to population safety. Flash floods are a type of sudden flood resulting from intense and concentrated rainfall, leading to rapid and destructive water flows. The descriptive approach was used to analyze the phenomenon and document its negative effects on urban facilities. The results revealed that weak municipal capacities and poor urban planning are the most prominent challenges in confronting these disasters. The study also concluded that climate change increases the likelihood of more frequent and severe flash floods and floods. The study recommends enhancing municipal preparedness, updating drainage systems, and integrating flood risk management into urban planning policies to ensure infrastructure sustainability and population safety.
