Water is considered the primary source for development. Therefore, understanding the knowledge of water sources, their development, conservation, and increasing efficiency in their use is a priority, particularly through an integrated water resources management system. This becomes crucial under conditions of scarcity, resource depletion, and climate changes. Groundwater is the main source of water in Libya. However, this resource has been severely depleted due to limited recharge, increased demand, leading to the depletion and contamination of many aquifers. Recognizing the importance of renewing knowledge about water potentials, their development, and sustainability, a scientific conference titled The Scientific Conference on Water Resources and Water Security in Libya is organized. The first edition took place at Tripoli University from May 15 to 17, 2023, and the second edition is scheduled at Sebha University from December 9 to 11, 2024. The conference aims to shed light on this vital topic through credible, transparent, and unbiased discussions. Researchers and experts from universities, research centers, authorities, and relevant institutions locally, regionally, and internationally are invited to participate in the conference's activities.
Conference Objectives
In the context of water scarcity and climate change, the conference aims to:
* Highlight and assess the available water potentials in Libya.
* Clarify the impact of environmental risks and natural disasters on water resources.
* Achieve integrated water management and contribute non-traditional water sources to address water scarcity.
* Enhance the role of scientific research in the development and sustainability of water resources.
