Architecture is defined as the art and techniques of design and construction, and its aim is to combine practical and aesthetic requirements for construction. The architect is responsible for finding the shape and space for the use appropriate. This specialization is also known as building science and art, and this specialization is concerned with the creativity of building designs with high efficiency in terms of planning, construction and lighting. As it is imperative that the student who wants to enroll in the specialty of architecture has a good level in mathematics, physics, economics, computer science, good ability in drawing, and the ability to imagine that the specialization requires making architectural drawings and designs.

Scientific, industrial and architectural progress is the standard by which the progress of nations and the growth of our Arab nation in the architecture and construction is measured by it deserves to increase our interest in preparing an efficient architect, who is able to design, implement and follow up on architectural projects and contribute to raising the level of Arab countries.

The Department of Architecture and Town Planning was opened in 2006 and is one of the most important departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences - Sebha University. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in architecture and city planning. The department aims to achieve the college vision, which includes a high and distinguished level of engineering education that keeps pace with advanced scientific and technical development, in addition to this the department seeks real participation to meet the country's needs of qualified technical cadres from engineers and researchers in various fields of architecture and city planning.

The graduate engineer from the Department of Architecture and Town Planning at the College of Engineering and Technical Science possesses scientific and practical knowledge to implement engineering plans, programs and projects that play an important role in the development of the local community. Where the student is prepared during his scientific career in the department to prepare him to be familiar with the basics of engineering sciences and its various applications, each according to his specialization. The student also during the study makes many contemporary and sustainable architectural designs in most of the study subjects, in addition to scientific trips and summer training in companies, implementation and design of buildings and some consulting offices, which would increase the technical level of students and get to know first-hand what is happening inside these companies.

The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning runs an elite group of faculty members in various civil and architectural engineering disciplines to meet all specializations in this field. The department also includes a supporting teaching staff who are a select group of teaching assistants and highly qualified technicians, and they assist professors in the field of scientific research and teaching. This reflects the important scientific production presented by the department, which is represented by authoring original scientific research published in specialized international journals. The department also organized and participated during this period in several international and local conferences and prestigious scientific forums that bear witness to the scientific excellence of the department's educational staff.
