The study of food science and technology is important at the present time, as it is indispensable for a person to have these vital sciences, from food processing to analyzing and controlling food quality, ending with byproducts of food and recycling factory waste.

The Department of Food Science and Technology is one of the vital departments that provide the student with knowledge and knowledge that illuminates his path in all aspects of his life, whether in the field of his work that will be practiced or the service of his community in which he lives, so the graduate of this section is qualified to work in government and private agencies and institutions related to quality analysis and control Food safety, or in those concerned with meal planning, and the graduates of this department have the ability to raise the community’s food culture and awareness, and to improve and reduce wrong food practices.

This department has been keen since its inception to provide the appropriate scientific and academic environment for students through equipping scientific laboratories with scientific devices and equipment and chemicals and supporting the department with distinguished scientific cadres and working to open the horizon of cooperation with all civil society institutions and thus the Food Industries Department has a good reputation due to the efficiency of its members and the credibility Work in it.

The department offers two academic programs, one for the awarding of a bachelor’s degree and the other for the awarding of a master’s degree in food science and technology. 139 students in the undergraduate stage and 31 male and female students in the master’s stage are currently studying in the department completing their research projects in the department’s laboratories.

Thus, the study of food science and technology and its applications plays an important role in the service of society, and this deserves a special effort from students who wish them success and success, as I must in this regard extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the faculty members who contributed to the establishment of this department and work to advance to a level The educational process in it.

About the department

The Department of Food Science and Technology was established under the name of the Department of Food Industries, where planning began to be established with the start of the establishment of the Higher Institute of Technology under Law No. (69) for the year 1976 AD, which included a specialist in environmental science and medical laboratories. It was merged according to Resolution No. 745 of the restructuring of universities issued in 1991 with the Higher Engineering School of the University of Sebha under the name of the College of Engineering and Technology in Brak.
