This module aims to develop an understanding of the classification of engineering materials structure steel, tool steel, essential alloying elements in tool steel, heat treatment of tool steel, weld-ability. Wear process, wear resistance alloys, friction resistance materials, high temperature resistance materials and alloys, nickel alloys, stainless steel, cooper alloys, aluminum alloys, while alloys, materials with specific properties, magnetic materials.
- Students should be able to know the classification of engineering materials.
- Students should be able to recognize structure ,properties and types of tool steel.
- Students should be familiar with the properties and types of metals and their alloys.
- Students should be able to recognize the types of non-metallic and their alloys.
- Students should know the different types of engineering alloys.
- The course in duration is a minimum of 12 weeks minimum and given once a year.
- The students have to attend lectures and be provided with lecture notes and references.

- Assignment is prepared by student and presented in the last 2 weeks.
- Written First Midterm Exam to assess knowledge and understanding of students which account a total of 15 marks.
- Written Second Midterm Exam with total of 15 marks.
- Attendance, presentation and participation discussions of student in the class with total of 10 marks.
- Final Exam consists of written and practical work to assess practical skills with total of 60 marks.
- Total Marks for this course 100 marks.
