Toxicity of Nerium Oleander Extracts on Culex Pipiens Mosquitoe
Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate the bio-efficacies of ethanol and petroleum ether extracts from Nerium oleander (leaves) against 4th instar larvae of Culex pipiens mosquitoes by using six concentrations: 0.3, 0.7, 1.5, 3.0, 6.0, and 12.0 ppm. The toxicity increased with increasing the period of exposure. On the other hand, petroleum ether extract elicited a higher effect on larvae than ethanol extract. The results revealed that the difference of temperatures between 27 ± 2 and 32 ± 2 °C elicited larvae sensitivity, especially with decreased values of mortality at all treatments.
