Abstract

The study aimed to define the concept of total quality in university libraries and to identify its reality in the Central Library at the University of Sirte. It also aimed to identify the possibility of its application in the study library. To collect the required data, a semi-structured interview was conducted with the Director General of Libraries in the University of Sirte. Besides, a five-point Likert Scale questionnaire was designed and distributed to the library Director, his representative and the heads of the departments and units in the university. The participants of the study were 23 from which (20) forms were back to be ready for analysis. The data was analyzed statistically by the use of electronic software. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which was that the sample direction was neutral in all the axes of total quality, and thus, the quality indicators in the study libraries are generally weak compared to the standards that must be available in university libraries. There was also an indication that the study library workers were not familiar with the concepts of total quality in the libraries. And in the study library, there were no specialists in library and information sciences.
