About the college

The College of Engineering and Technology is considered to be one of the oldest colleges at Sebha University, where the Higher Institute of Technology was established under Law No. (69) for the year 1976. The study started at the Higher Institute of Technology in the Republic of Malta in the academic year 1976/1977, and upon completion of the construction of the Institute's complex in Barak - Libya , The institute moved to the new compound and began studying at the new headquarters in the year 1979/1980, where the Higher Institute of Technology included three scientific departments in addition to the general science department, in which students are involved in studying before specialization.

In the year 1984 the University of Sabha was established and its headquarters are in the city of Sebha, and after four years of the establishment of the university the higher engineering school at the University of Sebha was established in the year 1988 and its headquarters in the city of Sebha, and in 1991 the higher engineering school was merged with the Higher Institute of Technology - Barak according to Resolution No. 745 Regarding the restructuring of Libyan universities, and its official name has become "College of Engineering and Technical Sciences" and it includes engineering departments in addition to the aforementioned technical departments, where the number of departments has become six departments (Civil Engineering - Mechanical Engineering - Electronic and Electrical Engineering - Department of Medical Laboratories - Department Food industries - Department of Environmental Sciences), and in the year 2006 a section was created to create the following engineering departments (Petroleum Engineering - Chemical Engineering - Materials Engineering) in Sebha city, which separated at the beginning of 2016 to be the nucleus for the establishment of the College of Energy and Mining, and the Department of Architecture and Town Planning was also created In 2006, the number of departments in the faculty became seven in addition to the Department of General Sciences, then the Department of Medical Engineering was added in the year 2019, making the college nine departments. The number of graduates of the college since its inception exceeded 3000 students for the first university stage.

As for postgraduate studies, college graduate studies began in 1992 in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Department of Laboratories and Food Industries was followed, then that began postgraduate studies in the departments of civil engineering, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering in 2004, where these departments graduated more than 100 graduates For the master's degree stage. The college aspires during the current academic year to start graduate studies programs for the degree of PhD in the Department of Environmental Sciences

 This strategy aims to evaluate the educational process, identify its negatives and positives, and submit programmed proposals to improve and develop them in order to achieve its mission within the framework of its vision until it reaches the intended purpose of its establishment through the following strategic goals:

  • Upgrading the level of faculty members to achieve a better level in the field of teaching.
  • Create the educational infrastructure and effectiveness in order to improve the knowledge and skill level of students.
  • Increasing the quality of educational programs in the college and working to develop and update them constantly.
  • Promote and develop student support.
  • Developing existing graduate programs in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation, opening new programs for accurate postgraduate studies to qualify national competencies of faculty members and conducting distinguished scientific research and studies.
  • Continuous cooperation and partnership with local, Arab and international community organizations and institutions to upgrade the college’s role and tasks and benefit from modern global trends in community service.
