The Media Department was opened at the Faculty of Arts in 1995 with two branches, the press and radio journalism. Years later, a third branch, the Public Relations Department, was opened. In the first years after the establishment, professors from the Arab countries had a doctorate in the media.

The number of students currently enrolled in the media department is about 360 students. The college graduated many journalists and media workers, as the first batch was in the academic year 2000/2001, many of whom held high positions in local and foreign media institutions.
