Journal of Medical Sciences (JOMS)

The Journal of Medical Sciences (JOMS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Sebha University, Libya (ISSN 2706-9443 Online). JOMS publishes original research articles, review articles, and short communications across the medical and health sciences.

Aims and Scope

JOMS publishes rigorous, original work in clinical medicine, medical laboratory sciences, microbiology and infectious diseases, public health and epidemiology, pharmacy and pharmacology, dentistry, nursing, and the biomedical basic sciences. The journal welcomes submissions from all regions and gives particular attention to research on health challenges in Libya, North Africa, and the Sahel, including infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, hereditary disorders, and health systems in resource-limited settings. It especially values studies that generate local and regional evidence often missing from the international literature.

Peer Review and Publication

- Peer review: All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers.
- Open access: All articles are free to read immediately upon publication.
- Publication frequency: One volume per year in two regular issues (Issue 1: January–June; Issue 2: July–December), with continuous publication. Accepted articles are published online as soon as the author approves the final proof and are added to the current issue without delay. Occasional special issues are published in addition to the two regular issues.
- Research integrity: All manuscripts are screened for similarity with Turnitin. The journal follows COPE guidelines and ICMJE recommendations.

Vision

To be a trusted, internationally indexed source of medical evidence from North Africa, recognized for rigorous peer review, transparent editorial practice, and research that informs health care in the region and beyond.

Objectives

- Regional evidence: Publish high-quality research on diseases and health problems that affect Libya and North Africa, filling gaps in the global literature.
- Editorial standards: Apply double-blind peer review and international ethical standards (COPE, ICMJE) to every manuscript.
- Visibility: Make every article freely and permanently accessible, and pursue indexing in major international databases.
- Research capacity: Support early-career and regional researchers through constructive peer review and clear author guidance.
- Collaboration: Strengthen scientific exchange among Sebha University, health institutions, and national and international research partners.
