How these figures are calculated

  • Measured figures. Submission counts, rates, and the two "80%" timelines are taken directly from the journal's editorial system (Open Journal Systems).
  • Rates. These are calculated on manuscripts submitted during the period that have received a final decision, so the acceptance and rejection rates add up to 100%.
  • The "80%" timelines. Each gives the number of days within which 80% of manuscripts reached that stage. This figure includes the slower manuscripts that needed several rounds of revision or extended reviewer searches.
  • The typical time. The typical time from submission to publication is the editorial office's estimate for a manuscript that needs one round of revision. It matches the targets in the journal's Editorial Process and Timeline.
  • Desk rejection. Manuscripts outside the journal's Aims and Scope, or not prepared according to the Author Guidelines, are declined without external review. This lets authors submit elsewhere without delay.
