Data Sharing Policy
Data Sharing Policy
Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences (JOPAS)
1. Policy Statement
The Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences (JOPAS) is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and the advancement of scientific knowledge through open research practices. This policy encourages and, where applicable, requires authors to make the data and materials underlying their research findings available to other researchers.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to JOPAS. It covers research data, code, software, protocols, materials, and other digital or physical artifacts necessary to understand, verify, replicate, and build upon the published research findings.
3. Data Availability Statement
All manuscripts submitted to JOPAS must include a "Data Availability Statement" that clearly describes how the data supporting the reported findings can be accessed. This statement should be placed before the references section.
Examples:
- Data deposited in a repository: "The data supporting this study are openly available in [Repository Name] at [DOI/URL], reference number [Accession Number]."
- Data available on request: "The data that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."
- Data included in the article: "The data supporting this study are included within the article and its supplementary materials."
- No new data generated: "No new data were generated in this study. The article is a review of previously published work."
4. Data Repositories
Authors are encouraged to deposit their data in established, recognized repositories appropriate to their field such as Zenodo, Figshare, and Dryad for general data, GenBank and NCBI for life sciences, and Harvard Dataverse for social sciences. The repository should assign a persistent identifier (DOI) and provide long-term preservation and access.
5. Code and Software
Authors are encouraged to share custom code, scripts, and software used in the research. Code should be deposited in repositories such as GitHub, GitLab, or Zenodo with a persistent identifier and appropriate license.
6. Materials and Protocols
Authors are expected to provide detailed descriptions of materials, protocols, and methods sufficient for others to replicate the work. Novel reagents or materials should be made available to researchers upon reasonable request.
7. Exceptions and Restrictions
Data sharing may be restricted in cases where human subject privacy cannot be adequately protected, legal or contractual obligations prevent data sharing, or national security or proprietary commercial interests apply. Authors must clearly justify any restrictions on data availability.
8. Data Citation
Authors are encouraged to cite their data in the reference list using the format: "Author(s) (Year). Title of Dataset. Repository Name. DOI/Identifier."
9. Verification
JOPAS reserves the right to request access to underlying data, code, or materials during the review process to verify the integrity of the reported findings.
10. Compliance
Failure to provide adequate data availability information, or refusal to share data when there is no legitimate reason for restriction, may result in revision requests during review, rejection of the manuscript, or publication of a correction or Expression of Concern for published articles.
