ORCID Requirement for Authors

Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences (JOPAS)

1. Policy Statement

The Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences (JOPAS) requires all corresponding authors to provide a valid ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) at the time of manuscript submission. All co-authors are strongly encouraged to obtain and provide their ORCID iDs.

2. What is ORCID?

ORCID (https://orcid.org) is a global, not-for-profit organization that provides a persistent digital identifier for researchers. An ORCID iD:

  • Uniquely distinguishes you from other researchers with similar names
  • Automatically connects your research activities, publications, and affiliations
  • Ensures proper attribution and discoverability of your scholarly work
  • Is free to obtain and maintain

3. How to Obtain an ORCID iD

Obtaining an ORCID iD is free and takes less than one minute:

  1. Visit https://orcid.org/register
  2. Complete the registration form with your name and email address
  3. Receive your unique ORCID iD (format: https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000)

4. Where to Add ORCID in Submissions

During the submission process, authors must enter their ORCID iD in the appropriate field in the OJS submission system. The ORCID iD will be displayed on the published article page alongside the author's name.

5. Benefits for Authors

  • Persistent Identity: Your ORCID iD remains the same throughout your career, regardless of name changes or institutional moves
  • Reduced Errors: Accurate attribution reduces citation errors and name ambiguity
  • Automatic Updates: Your publication record is automatically updated in ORCID when your article is published
  • Integration: ORCID integrates with major research systems, funders, and publishers worldwide

6. Implementation in OJS

JOPAS uses the ORCID plugin integrated with Open Journal Systems (OJS). During submission, authors can create or connect their ORCID iD through the OJS interface, authorize OJS to access their ORCID record, and confirm their ORCID iD is displayed with their published articles.

7. Author Verification

JOPAS will verify all ORCID iDs provided during submission. Authors whose ORCID iD cannot be verified may be contacted to provide additional information.

8. Privacy

ORCID iDs will be displayed publicly on published articles as part of the author metadata. ORCID handles personal data in accordance with its privacy policy.
