The Economic Dimension of Sustainable Development, Composite Index, Economic Variables, Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the economic dimension of sustainable development in Libya from 2000 to 2023, by using the composite index analysis method (DSeco) to measure economic sustainability. The study evaluates a range of key economic variables such as GDP per capita, economic growth rate, investment rate, the contribution of non-oil sectors to GDP, and human capital investment. The results show that the Libyan economy faces significant challenges due to its heavy reliance on the oil sector, making it vulnerable to sharp economic fluctuations resulting from oil price volatility and political crises. However, the economy showed gradual improvement after 2011, regaining some stability, but it continues to face ongoing challenges that require economic diversification to achieve true sustainability.
