Report on University Ranking 2019:

The overall improvement in the international ranking of Sebha University from 2017 to 2019 was 10,666 international universities, which accounts for a 22% increase based on the total of 16,000 international universities in the ranking. This indicates that Sebha University is progressing in the right direction in terms of international ranking.

Overall, when comparing the latest versions of the assessment, namely January 2019 and July 2019, the evaluation in the latest version (July 2019) was significantly better than the previous one (January 2019). Sebha University advanced by 855 ranks in the latest version, surpassing 855 international universities, despite the local improvement remaining at the fifth rank. The improvement in the previous two versions (January 2019 and July 2018) was only 35 global ranks, with the local ranking remaining the same. The percentage of this improvement between the latest version and the previous one reached 12%, which is a remarkable progress in favor of the university. If Sebha University continues at this rate of improvement, it is expected to achieve a significantly higher position in future versions.

This improvement, according to Webometrics ranking criteria, primarily focused on the openness criterion. The previous rank was 4,580, and it improved to 3,275, indicating an improvement of 1,305 ranks and a 39% improvement compared to the previous version. This criterion is calculated based on the number of textual files associated with Sebha University circulating on the international information network.

Regarding the excellence criterion, which is linked to research publications under the university’s name, the change was very minor. The university’s rank in the previous version was 4,315, and it improved to 4,266, with a minimal improvement of 1.15% compared to the previous version. This particular criterion should receive dedicated efforts to enhance it by publishing research in reputable scientific journals, as it is expected that the university’s ranking improvement will eventually stop if we do not sufficiently focus on research outputs of the faculties.

As for the presence criterion on the international information network and the impact associated with the university’s website and citation by internet users, it was unexpected, especially after the recent development that occurred on the website. The momentum criterion was better at 9,848 but declined to 13,136, indicating a decrease of about 25% compared to the previous version. The impact criterion was 16,589 and experienced a minor improvement to 15,840, with an improvement percentage of 4.73% compared to the previous version. However, it is expected that both of these criteria will improve in the upcoming version of the ranking because the issue is temporary and will be resolved when internet users start circulating the university’s website since most of the links on the university’s website have completely changed in search engines.
