Introduction
The strategic plan aims to empower women at Sebha University and in the wider community, promoting their participation across all sectors and enabling them to become influential and leading contributors to societal development. The goal is to ensure that women attain their rightful position in society and serve as exemplary models of leadership at the local, regional, and international levels. This vision will be realised through a set of priorities that strengthen the office’s impactful programmes:

Consolidating the progress made by women at the university, ensuring the sustainability of these achievements, and continuing to build women’s capacities for broader participation in academic and professional fields. - Promoting Social Cohesion

This strategic plan is grounded in foundational principles and international frameworks, including the Libyan Women’s Empowerment Strategy, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and other international agreements aimed at advancing Arab women within global competitiveness indicators.

Mission
To foster a culture of work that enhances the personal, professional, and academic skills of women, while supporting the factors that enable their participation in the labour market. The office works to raise awareness about the importance of women’s involvement, encourages women to take leadership roles, and supports their career development by aligning training programmes with labour market needs, ultimately improving employment mechanisms to elevate their contributions to economic and social development.
Objectives of the Women’s Empowerment and Advocacy Office
The primary aim of the Women’s Empowerment and Advocacy Office is to promote the status and role of women within the university by fostering an inclusive educational and social environment. The Office seeks to empower women to participate actively in academic and community life, helping them realise their full academic and professional potential.

- Promote women’s leadership by encouraging their involvement in decision-making processes and supporting their contribution to sustainable development across various fields.
- Raise awareness of women’s rights and strengthen the principle of gender equality within the university and the broader community.
- Provide comprehensive support for women, including academic, social, and psychological assistance, to help them thrive in the university setting.
- Encourage active participation of women in university life, particularly through engagement in student and community-based initiatives.
- Support scientific research and innovation on issues relevant to women, and empower female researchers working in these fields.
- Offer workshops, training programmes, and educational opportunities to build women’s academic and professional skills.
- Collaborate with relevant governmental bodies and civil society organisations to enhance support for women both on campus and in the surrounding community.
Key Initiatives and Activities
To achieve these objectives, the Office undertakes a range of initiatives, including:
- Creating an interactive online platform for communication with female students and staff, providing guidance and support through digital services.
- Delivering training courses and workshops in areas such as leadership, strategic planning, communication, and creative thinking, to strengthen the skills and confidence of women in the university.
